Recent Development Activity in the Lakes Region
The Lakes Region Planning Commission (LRPC) recently completed the 15th annual report of Development Activity in the Lakes Region. From 2010 to 2011, the updated report shows a few modest regional declines in residential, commercial, and industrial permitting compared to 2010’s slight recovery. The number of residential permits issued in the Lakes Region decreased from 216 in 2010 to 196 in 2011; a decrease of 9.3 percent.    more...

DES Drinking Water Protection Conference
Register to attend the DES 2013 Drinking Water Source Protection Conference on May 1st from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Grappone Conference Center, Concord, NH. Stormwater Management Workshop
You are invited to a free workshop on Stormwater Management being held on March 29th at the Meredith Community Center, Meredith, NH. This half day workshop is an opportunity to learn about various stormwater management methods, tools and innovative techniques, and to hear from local communities that have adopted Stormwater Management Ordinances or have completed some interesting stormwater management projects. UNH Associate Professor Malcolm Smith gave a presentation on Understanding Angry People at the January LRPC Commission Meeting. Dr. Smith offered several insights based on his lengthy experience as a designer and user of programs to improve the quality of family life. This presentation is now available online. “Winnipesaukee Gateway” Receives Award
The “Winnipesaukee Gateway” received the 2011 New Hampshire Planners Association Project of the Year award! This award is granted to a project, program or tool that is a significant advantage to the cause of planning. The “Winnipesaukee Gateway” (www.winnigateway.org) is unique in that it is the first “web-based” watershed management plan to be approved by the NH Department of Environmental Services. The Gateway also represents the desire to create an informative tool that can deliver large amounts of constantly changing information to key audiences, which will educate and promote awareness and stewardship of the natural resources in the Lake Winnipesaukee watershed among the public.    more...

A recent report on development trends shows that 2009 residential housing permits issued by local Lakes Region municipalities continue to decline to the lowest levels in more than 20 years. Laconia, Moultonborough and Bristol issues the most permits in the Lakes Region. For additional information see the report on the Landuse and Housing webpage.

Lakes Region Facility and Other Brownfields Reports Now Available
Several Brownfields presentations from the LRPC Commission Meeting are now available online. In addition, a report with final recommendations for usage of the Lakes Region Facility from the US EPA pilot project for the implementation of the PREPARED Workbook has been completed.
